Farewell Party for Kenji Hirai
We had a farewell party for Dr. Kenji Hirai, who is leaving our group in the beginning of April. A lot of Japanese alumni were occasionally visiting Kyoto for the conference so that the former and current members of MC2 celebrated the departure of Kenji Hirai.
Bon Voyage! Student Lecture Tour
Ph.D Students, Mr. Masashi Nakahama and Mr. Chiwon Kim traveled to Canada and USA, respectively, for giving a talk. These tours are supported by JSPS Oversea Visit Program (Bon Voyage Program). Kenji Hirai defended his PhD thesis
Mr. Kenji Hirai, a PhD student in the MC2 group, defended his PhD thesis!! Kenji has worked in our group since his undergraduate training in 2007 and have done a lot of great works on core/shell or heterostructured PCP system.Now we celebrate Dr. Kenji Hirai. Congratulation!!
New Year Party
We had a new year party with all professors in the Kitagawa Laboratory at Kiyoshi(喜よ志).
[Alumni] Manuel Tsotsalas starts research in Karlsruhe
The former member of MC2, Dr. Manuel Tsotsalas, started working in Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) in the beginning of 2013 as independent guest researcher. Good luck, Manuel!!
Year-end parties
We had a year-end party of the iCeMS Kitagawa group, who are working in iCeMS Complex 2, at our favorite Spanish restaurant. We also had a party with the former students of Kitagawa Group. Finally, we had a party with the alumni of MC2, Mio, Yoko and Yohei.

We had a welcome party for Mr. JiCheng "Tony" Zhang at our second meeting room, so-called HUB.

We organized "6th Annual Symposium on Nanobiotechnology: Kyoto Cell-Material Integration" @Shiran Kaikan, Kyoto (8-9/Nov/2012). The organizer is Ken-ichiro Kamei and the co-organizer is Shuhei Furukawa. All of the MC2 group members worked at the symposium.
[Alumni] Mio Kondo got the ACT-C grant(先導的物質変換領域)
The former member, Assist. Prof. Mio Kondo in Institute for Molecular Science, Japan, got the JST grant named ACT-C (Advanced Catalytic Transformation program for Carbon utillzation: 先導的物質変換領域). Our laboratory head, Prof. Susumu Kitagawa, also got the same grant. Congratulations!!
